Abstract

Antimicrobial resistance is a growing public health challenge that is strongly influenced by inappropriate antibiotic use and limited awareness. This study examines knowledge and awareness of antimicrobial resistance among university students. Awareness is assessed through understanding of antibiotic indications, treatment completion, self-medication, resistance development, infection prevention, and the importance of professional medical advice. The findings suggest that many students have basic knowledge of antibiotics, but important gaps remain regarding the causes and consequences of antimicrobial resistance. Misconceptions about using antibiotics for viral infections, stopping treatment early, and sharing leftover medicines may contribute to inappropriate practices. Students with greater health knowledge are more likely to demonstrate responsible attitudes toward antibiotic use and resistance prevention. The study highlights the importance of targeted educational programs, campus awareness activities, and improved access to reliable health information to strengthen knowledge and encourage responsible antimicrobial use among university students.
