Abstract

Data integration using XML-based exchange formats is important because enterprises often need to share structured data across different applications, databases, platforms, and external partner systems. XML provides a flexible and self-describing format that supports hierarchical data representation, schema validation, and system-independent data exchange. Existing literature highlights XML schema definition, document type definition, XPath, XQuery, XML parsing, data mapping, transformation, and validation as major components of XML-based integration. However, many organizations still face challenges such as large file size, complex nested structures, slow parsing, schema mismatch, inconsistent tags, and difficulty converting XML data into relational database formats. This research is important because poor XML integration can lead to data loss, failed imports, inaccurate reporting, and weak interoperability between enterprise systems. This article discusses data integration using XML-based exchange formats, focusing on XML structure design, schema validation, source-to-target mapping, transformation rules, parsing methods, error handling, and database loading. The study concludes that effective XML-based integration improves data portability, strengthens interoperability, reduces exchange errors, and supports reliable enterprise data communication.
