Abstract

Master data management is essential for enterprise applications because it provides a consistent and trusted view of core business entities such as customers, products, suppliers, employees, and accounts. A structured master data management framework helps organizations reduce duplication, standardize data definitions, improve governance, and support reliable information sharing across multiple business systems. Existing literature highlights data governance, data stewardship, data quality control, entity resolution, metadata management, workflow approval, and golden record creation as key components of master data management. However, many enterprises still face challenges such as inconsistent master records, duplicate entries, fragmented application databases, weak ownership, poor synchronization, and conflicting data definitions across departments. This research is important because inaccurate or inconsistent master data can affect transaction processing, reporting accuracy, regulatory compliance, and strategic decision-making. This article discusses a master data management framework for enterprise applications, focusing on data standardization, governance roles, data quality rules, matching and merging processes, reference data control, system integration, and continuous monitoring. The study concludes that an effective master data management framework improves data consistency, strengthens enterprise interoperability, reduces operational errors, and supports more reliable business decisions.
